Weather conditions play a major part of when a survey can be carried out. Conductivity meters (moisture meters) are used in conjunction with “soundings", using a phenolic hammer when areas of a vessel are identified "as suspect" when inspecting for areas of delamination. If the surfaces of the vessel are wet and/or moist, a conductivity meter will not be of use.
Additionally, a vessel exposed to freezing temperatures that may have moisture that has migrated into cored laminates will be frozen. Any soundings and/or conductivity readings will give false readings. When inspecting the deck surfaces and hull, dry conditions are required along with above freezing temperatures in sufficient time to ensure "no ice" exists.
